Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd. Industrial Visit
On September 1, 2022, three academic members — Dr. Kavita Gupta, Dr. Ayan Chatterjee, and Dr. Priyanka Tiwari — along with third semester students from Rishihood University — visited the Yakult Danone India Private Limited, Sonipat. Yakult is exclusively produced at one factory in India, from where it is then sold throughout the country.
This industrial tour’s objectives were to give Operations & Production, a genuine feel of the contemporary industrial environment and to educate us about the business’s operations, corporate culture, and mannerisms..
There were two distinct parts of the visit:
- An Introduction to the Yakult Plant
We had a warm welcome and were given a Yakult drink and some pastries. After rehydration, a presentation about the company’s history and the history of probiotics and Yakult was shown, including how and when it was created, its present situation, and the specific demographics of the Yakult tree. Additionally, a little film was shown. It was a case study of a little child who beat his condition thanks to drinking Yakult.
- Visit a factory.
During the tour, we went inside the processing unit to see how the many processing stages — including mixing the raw ingredients, sterilizing, fermenting, blending, injecting, scrambling, filling/sealing, shrinking and packing, storing, and their automatic control process — are carried out. It was fascinating to see how small health bottles of Yakult were produced by enormous machines.
I enjoy the flavor of Yakult drinks and their emphasis on health, particularly “Listen to your gut” and “Daily Piyo Healthy Jiyo.” This is beneficial to people of all ages.
Since lifestyle diseases are growing more prevalent in India, virtually everyone is becoming more health concerned and searching for the greatest eating options. The proliferation of pathogenic gut bacteria is the primary cause of the majority of digestive issues, and probiotics can help with a variety of conditions, including balancing the good bacteria in our digestive system, preventing and treating diarrhea, reducing the symptoms of some digestive disorders, boosting immunity, and have anti-cancerous property.
Yakult has the significant benefit of not having any preservatives added.
Yakult Ladies, their distinctive delivery service, offer door-to-door delivery even if only a single package of Yakult is ordered. It supports women’s empowerment. It was incredibly successful because they could reach out to and engage with their clients more effectively despite the advent of digital marketing.
Yakult primarily markets to people who are health conscious and are aware of the importance of functional foods like probiotics. The primary challenges for this product are storage difficulties and a lack of flavor options.
Plastics have been demonstrated to seep into food products, disturb our endocrine system, affect our hormonal and reproductive systems, and even be related to cancer and brain harm.
Yakult’s plastic packaging is made from a range of polymers, several additives, and other materials including coatings and adhesives.
In addition to residues from compounds used in manufacturing, such as solvents, packaging may also contain accidentally added substances (NIAS), such as pollutants, oligomers, or degradation products. Of course, there is a very easy way to prevent plastic hazards: don’t use plastics in the first place! And if Yakult does use plastics, kindly confirm that none of these dangerous substances specified by the Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) of the European Chemicals Agency are present.
Overall, it was an interesting and energizing experience. The industrial tour was really participatory from beginning to end. My benefit from the trip was learning about the many processing procedures and the latest technologies employed to produce processed items. They have achieved enough prosperity to strike a balance between personal honor and commercial competence. Through instruction and observation, I gained knowledge throughout the tour.
